Do Away with Looking for a Quote

I've rarely seen "Looking for a Quote" listed under paid projects that didn't immediately pick the first person who said they'd do it for free. This undercuts the professional community and punishes creatives who charge what they're worth and give perfectly reasonable quotes for their labor.
If casting directors don't want to pay, they can save all of us some time and post a project as unpaid vs. "looking for a quote."

In addition, the public nature of the casting call doesn’t provide a method for providing a quote during the audition process, so at best you get to negotiate after already being cast -which I have never seen happen.

Diana Kennedy: It feels like the reverse of an auction. The more auditions there are, the lower the quotes get as time moves forward, and then whomever posts "FREE!" gets the opportunity.
