Do not automatically assign closed roles to "offsite actor" if you haven't picked yet

I've seen it a lot, that when someone closes a role to prevent people auditioning, that it's automatically assigned to a mysterious "offsite actor". Most times I've seen this, this hasn't actually been the case - they're just taking time to think over the casting call. Instead, it should simply be marked "closed", and if it is indeed a role that has been cast to an offsite actor, have a checkbox for that. It should also prompt you to select someone in case you have forgotten, but not force you.

But it doesn't prevent anyone from auditioning when the role is closed

I'm actually seeing this now even when I've clicked the "Assign to Role" on a person who auditioned. On the backend, it retains the person I selected, but it shows that the role was cast to offsite actor on the project page itself.

I actually just signed up to leave a similar suggestion here (luckily, I saw yours first lol). I actually didn't realize that when roles were closed it automatically assigned it to an "offsite actor"; I figured the project was just cross-posted somewhere and they used talent from elsewhere.
I agree that the role should just be "closed", "casting in progress" or something similar to give people a heads up so they (ie. me) don't get frustrated.
Also 100% agree about there being a checkbox if the role has legit been case off-site. [Is there such thing as a mandatory checkbox for projects intending to be cross-posted so it can be marked as such?]
I'd personally love to have some sort of indicator that the project is cross-posted so I have an idea of the candidate pool and whether or not I should bother throwing my hat into the ring.
