send auditioning talent project update notifications

(I'm new to CCC but I couldn't find confirmation on this info/questions on the site or through email or through any tickets already submitted here on canny so I'd like to request this feature if it doesn't already exist.)
I'd like for everyone who auditioned for a role to be notified whenever I post project updates.
I'm a director/creator who's never auditioned on CCC, so as far as I can tell only folks who are following the project get e-mail notifications about project updates, but I wouldn't expect talent to follow every single project they audition for just so they can get updates. (After all, following every auditioned project would probably make for a very awkward and tedious chore of unfollowing every project where they're not cast.) Sometimes things change with the project before anyone is cast, so I'd like for everyone who auditioned to be caught up on those changes. My assumption is if they were interested enough to audition for a project, talent would probably prefer an easily dismissed notification for any updates on the project, but maybe there could still be an easy way to opt-out of update notifs for a project if they don't want them after all?
If talent's audition is dismissed, should they be removed automatically from the updates notifications list? I don't know if most talent would prefer getting updates for a project that's continuing without them, but removing them automatically seems... rude? Someone may still be interested in the project despite not being cast, after all. Perhaps just a "turn off update notifications from [this project]?" clickable on the notification itself is best.
It'd also be great if there was a way for them to Like or otherwise let me know that they saw the updates. Maybe a private Seen list for each update?

I've just made the Shortlist email go out as well.

Great feedback.
I've made a few updates based on it.
- I've added a 'follow project' button that is visible on all project pages. People can click on this to get emails when you add a project update.
- When people enter a submission for a project, they now automatically follow that project. They can turn this off by clicking on the 'unfollow project' button if they prefer.
- I've added a Reaction button on project updates so people can react when they've seen an update. It's anonymous when viewed on the project page, but you can see who reacted on the manage project page.
Following a project only sends an email on project updates, so people won't be overwhelmed by project status changes, like if a role is closed or if the deadline is passed.
"Assign to Role" will send an email to that person.
"Dismiss" and "shortlist" do not send out notifications. Still deciding on what to do there. I am likely going to follow suggestions on the shortlist emailing.

Buford Taylor Re: the dismissal notifications, I think Julia makes a strong case for how to do it in her canny suggestion: https://casting-call-club.canny.io/feature-requests-and-bug-reports/p/opt-in-for-this-role-has-been-cast-notifications

Semi-related questions:
"Dismiss" seems pretty self explanatory, but does "Assign to Role" send an email/notification to the actor that I want them in that role, or does it just assign them for the sake of project bookkeeping/public role availability so I actually still need to reach out to them privately after Assigning them to let them know?
Is the actor notified when I "Dismiss" or "Shortlist" their audition? I've seen feature requests here on canny that imply talent isn't notified of either, but I just wanted confirmation. (Btw, I upvoted 2 canny suggestions to notify actors when they're shortlisted because I think that'd be swell to let them know that despite not being the final selection they did great work. Maybe talent can even opt-in to being notified about shortlisting or dismissals?)
